Abstract

A new type of tunable Fresnel liquid crystal (LC) lens composed of transparent interdigitated electrodes and high-resistivity film was manufactured. The interdigitated electrodes were aligned around the central lens unit and different voltages were applied on them. Then the lens power of ±4 diopter was obtained under current 40 m thickness of liquid crystal layer. Moreover, Fresnel type of LC lens with the diameter of 30 mm was manufactured and observed by polarized microscope. Finally, convex and concave lens effects were verified from whole aperture area with the interference fringes and obtained its prospective applications for large aperture tunable lens.
