Liquid crystal is an intermediate material between crystal and liquid forming the rod-like or disk-shaped organic molecules, and has interesting properties, the molecular orientation as crystal and the fluidity as liquid. A mechanism of the formation of the liquid crystal phase is known that the molecular interactions and molecular structures are closely related, but the details of the mechanism are not understood. Therefore, to elucidate the liquid crystal phase, it is necessary to understand those relations on the structure. In this study, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Raman spectroscopy simultaneous measurements of N-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-4-butylaniline (MBBA) were performed. We will discuss the main factor of the phase transitions and the mechanism of the formation of the phase based on the experimental results.
