Abstract

We have investigated the phase transition behaviors and carrier transport properties of novel electron-deficient calamitic liquid crystalline organic semiconductors based on dibenzo[c,h][2,6]naphthyridine (DBN) core, i.e., dialkylated side chain DBN of 2,8-didecyl-DBN (C10-DBN-C10), mono-side chain DBN of 2-decyl-DBN, and unsymmetrical substituted DBN of 2-chloro-8-decyl-DBN. Two of them exhibited low ordered smectic liquid crystal, SmC and SmA phases. The mobility of C10-DBN-C10 in SmC phase depended on electric field and temperature, which indicated the hopping transport of hole and electron in SmC phase of C10-DBN-C10 in energetic disordered system.
