Abstract

Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) molecules show strong photoluminescence by suppressing their internal motions through aggregation. In this study, we synthesized elastomers in which AIE molecules were imparted to liquid crystalline properties and incorporated into the main chain of the polymer. The luminescence behavior of this material would change due to the direct transfer of strain caused by mechanical stimulation to the luminophores, which induces a change in molecular orientation and suppression of intramolecular motion. The correlation between the macroscopic deformation of the elastomer and the structural change and luminescence behavior of the AIE luminophores was investigated.
