Electric-field-induced birefringence measurement of MC-815 and MC-881 mixed liquid crystals showing a thresholdless antiferroelectric phase

Abstract

MC-815 (FLC) and MC-881 (AFLC) mixture was expected to be thresholdless rapid response LC material. However, due to demise of applied research, the detailed physical properties and the mechanism of thresholdless behavior are left unveiled yet. In this study, electric-field-induced birefringence (EFIB) measurements were carried out with several mixtures around 35 wt% of MC-815 in order to research the response to electric field of the mixtures. From the 34.00 wt% result, characteristic temperature dependance of electric field response was observed.
