Phase behavior of binary mixtures between PHexOAB and 8OCB exhibiting different molecular packing modes in SmA phase

Abstract

Phase behavior of PHexOAB/8OCB binary mixtures was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry, polarization microscopy, and small-angle and wide-angle X-ray diffractions. The binary mixtures exhibited the nematic, SmA, and SmB phases depending on the composition. We discuss the phase behavior and the layer spacing of the smectic phases in the binary system.
