Abstract

To gain a comprehensive understanding of the manifestation mechanism of ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) phases, including the ferroelectric nematic phase, and to advance the development of cutting-edge FLC-based devices, effective screening of various FLC molecules is imperative. In this study, we implemented mechanochemical synthesis using a ball mill and successfully demonstrated a rapid, solvent-minimized, and sustainable method for screening FLC molecules. Utilizing this approach, we achieved high yields of both known and novel FLC molecules within a timeframe of 2-7 hours, involving 4-8 steps. Herein, we present detailed manufacturing methods and physical properties of the synthesized molecules.
