Abstract

Poly(phenylacetylene)s have a rigid main chain. These main chains have stereo-regularity due to the polymerization mechanisms, which results helical structure is formed in the main chain. The helical structure can be induced by chiral substituents or guests. We have been developing the chiral materials such as chiral stationary phases, scaffolds for asymmetric catalysts, and spin-selective materials by taking advantage of this feature. In this presentation, I will present our recent studies on the controlled polymerization reaction mechanism of phenylacetylene and the application of precisely synthesized polymers to functional chiral materials.
