Abstract

Evaluating azimuthal anchoring energy is crucial for evaluating liquid crystal displays.The purpose of the study is to establish an elaborating method to evaluate the azimuthal anchoring energy of VATN using a transmission ellipsometer. In this presentation, the bulk twist and deviation angles at the alignment surface were determined by measuring and fitting the phase difference and the angle of the amplitude ratio using a transmission ellipsometer.Simulation of the alignment state of VATN confirmed that the conditions for determining the torsional angle and deviation angle by numerical fitting were appropriate. These results suggest that the azimuthal anchoring energy can be determined if the pretilt angle and polar anchoring energy can be obtained in advance.
