Fluctuation Dynamics of Ferroelectric Liquid Crystals

Abstract

Ferroelectric liquid crystals with a helical structure have two kinds of fluctuational modes : the amplitudon mode and the phason mode. We have observed the phason mode by means of the quasielastic light scattering technique and the linear dielectric relaxation spectroscopy and compared the correlation time and the relaxation time obtained from both the method to check the equivalence of the two methods.
