Abstract
In the composite prepared with conducting polymeric liquid crystal, poly[5-(p-(trans-4'-n-octylcyclohexyl)phenoxy)-1-pentyne] (PPCH803A) and ferroelectric liquid crystal, (R)-4'-(1-methoxycarbonyl-1-ethoxy) phenyl 4-[4-n-octyloxy) phenyl] benzoate (1MC1EPOPB), novel electrical and optical properties have been observed. Dielectric constant of the composite is extremely large in the smectic C* phase. Spontaneous polarization of the composite appears at Tc and becomes larger with decreasing temperature. The response time of electro-optical effects in the composite is shorter than that in 1MC1EPOPB.
