Abstract

The ILS is the international standard system for aircraft guidance in final approach and landing.

Its guidance signals are, however, often affected with unnecessary waves reflected by such obstacles as buildings, hangars, etc. causing serious troubles for this system.

This paper, as the first report of our study, describes experimental results of the scattering effects on the ILS, employing (1) a real frequency model and (2) a 9.6 GHz scale model, in order to evaluate analytical method, and the scattering effects estimated by calculation are found to be in good agreement with results of the experiment.

The Scattering effect due to comparatively complicated obstacle composed of three plates is also shown by comparison with results due to a single plate, and the difference of characteristics between them is presented.

The analytical method in this paper is based on the scalor solution by green's theorem.
