A simulation based on ground radar data is carried out to assess the performance of Airborne Collision Avoidance System (ACAS) version 6.04 algorithm. Eight-day radar data at Tokyo International Airport and seven-day radar data at Osaka International Airport are processed.
All Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) passenger aircraft which are controlled by the terminal controller in each airport are considered to equipped with ACAS. The total flight time of IFR passenger aircraft is 1,000 hours in Tokyo International Airport and 688 hours in Osaka International Airport.
There are 2 resolution advisories (RAs) and 22 traffic advisories (TAs) in Tokyo International Airport and 2 RAs and 9 TAs in Osaka International Airport.
The number of RAs and TAs of version 6.04 algorithm is reduced as compared with that of version 6.0 algorithm. The result is consistent with the purpose of the revision of the algorithm. The version 6.04 algorithm improves the operationability for air traffic controller and pilot remarkably.
