Abstract

This paper describes ENRI's new anechoic chamber that was completed in March 2002. The basic performance, measurement system and new unique features of the chamber are described first. Reflection and absorption characteristics of the radio wave absorbers in the chamber are shown for 10 GHz and 94 GHz measurements as an initial test and validation for further use. They are conducted by a method of Radar Cross Section measurements. A millimeter wave FMCW radar is employed for 94 GHz measurement.

10 GHz measurement results show that the performance of the radio wave absorber itself is good, but the reflection from the absorbers cannot be ignored in very low level measurements. 94 GHz measurement results show that the performance of the radio wave absorber itself is good in this frequency as well. However, they also show that a very thin metallic structure of the chamber door may cause a big reflection because the antenna pattern in this frequency range tends to be very sharp.

The examples are presented about the measurements recently conducted in the chamber as part of research activities. Practical procedures are also shown to use the chamber for high frequency measurements in the appendix.
