Abstract

The application of bentonite on decolorization of waste water from dyeing containing direct and acid dyes has been evaluated with particular regard to the effects of added alkali halides with different size of anions and cations. The addition of the inorganic electrolytes was found to enhance decolorization of the waste water by bentonite. The larger the radius of the cations of the added electrolyte, the greater were the effects on the decolorization. However, anionic radius did not affect decolorization of the waste water. In addition, the effects of the structure and concentration of the dyes in the waste water on decolorization by bentonite are discussed.
