Abstract

A surgical cotton was beaten in a laboratory beater for 7 hours to become a very wet stuff, the degree of wetness being W_m=113 on the author's wetness tester.2) After drying the beaten stuff its viscosity in a cuprammonium solution containing 182g NH₃ and 11g Cu in L. was measured at 25°C by employing a celloviscometer3) devised by the author and the following result has been obtained :
Thus a very considerable lowering of viscosity has been observed which seems to be mainly due to the reduction of the size of micellae in cellulose fibres.
