Abstract
The In vitro evaluation method for viral infection of shrimp was established by using primary cell culture. The suitable organ for primary cell culture was the lymphoid organ. The optimized conditions for viral infection were 5 h incubation in culture medium and 3 times washing of cells with FBS-free fresh culture medium. White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) in infected cells was detected using PCR; the optimized conditions for washing before collecting cells for PCR detection was 3 times with PBS. PCR was a better detection method for viral infection and it was applied for evaluating the effect of natural products against WSSV. Two species of mushroom extracts were found to be effective against WSSV.
