Abstract
This paper reports the mushroom fauna of the Ashiu research forest based on a literature review and field survey. For the past 60 years, mushroom surveys in the Ashiu research forest have been conducted intermittently, but the results of these surveys have not been organized, and the mushroom fauna of the forest has not been understood. Therefore, Therefore, a literature review and a new field survey were conducted to develop an inventory list of mushrooms in the forest. The literature review revealed six publications, including doctoral dissertations and master's theses, containing list of mushroom species found in Ashiu research forest from 1967 to 2013.
From these mushroom species lists, those with scientific names were extracted and catalogued by revising them according to the scientific names currently in use and the new classification system. To determine the current mushroom fauna of the research forest, a survey was conducted in collaboration with eco-tour guides in the research forest from 2019 to 2021. In addition, online databases were used to investigate specimens collected in Ashiu and preserved in the Natural History Museum and research institutes. As a result, a total of 462 species were found from the literatures and field surveys, and are reported here as a mushroom inventory of the research forest.
