Abstract
Abstract:
Decision rules expressed by if-then form are highly readable and
suitable for the situations in which users need to understand the rules
intuitively. The application ranges from business purpose such as
marketing analysis, public purpose such as accident analysis,
to wisdom for living such as eatability of mushroom.
When one reads rules, a decision rule is desired to satisfy the
following three points.
1) They can explain most of possible situation as a rule set.
2) The size of a rule set is small and thus memorable and manageable.
3) Description of each rule is simple and easy enough to understand.
In general, however, it is difficult to achieve both 2) and 3)
under the condition 1) satisfied.
In this paper, we propose a novel criterion on utility of decision rule
sets on the basis of above three points.
In addition, we discuss the effect of reduction in both number of
attributes and the domain size of each attribute, referring to the
criterion.
