Abstract
Japanese hospitals manage their knowledge about nursing care
by manuals. Since such manuals are not constructed well and
describe only procedures, it is difficult for nurses under training
to understand rationale and/or alternative methods for nursing procedure.
The authors propose a representation model of human action as
CHARM: Convincing Human Action Rationalized Model. CHARM gives users
rationale of their action therefore convinces them to act.
For this reason, CHARM supports sharing and inheriting the knowledge
of various processes in the medical domain. We experimentally
described medical process models referring to the real manuals
of Nursing Department of Miki City Hospital at Hyogo prefecture.
At the same time, we designed and prototyped a tool for support
learning knowledge represented by the CHARM on tablet PCs.
With the CHARM and the tool, we contribute to knowledge
management about nursing processes.
