Abstract
This paper studies situations in which children use the book search engine: "Adventure in the Sea of Books", which we developed for "International Institute for Children's Literature, Osaka" in 2002. This book search engine is equipped with content with which children can enjoy searching for books through the Internet, along with "Subject Heading Lists for Children", which we uniquely developed for this system. Each book registered in the library system is given some keywords relating to its outline or contents along with its basic bibliographic data. We developed "Subject Heading Lists for Children" by examining and systematizing those keywords carefully. So far, we examined the following two keywords using "Subject Heading Lists for Children": "Users' Keywords", which are rarely contained in the books' bibliographic data but users frequently input, and "Assigned Keywords", which are the unique keywords assigned to the books' bibliographic data. This paper analyzes the characteristics of the "Assigned Keywords" by the DEMATEL method. Then, using the results, we make a distinction between influencing keywords and influenced ones, and clarify the influence relationship between the keywords. This analysis will help librarians assign keywords to each book, and lead to improve the usability of the book search engine for library users.
