Genetic Algorithm with Speciation

Abstract

A speciation shows some similarity to date clustering in terms that one set becomes multiple separated sets. Based on this idea, we previously proposed a data clustering method inspired by a model for speciation. The data clustering method is highly consistent with a genetic algorithm (GA) in terms of procedures, and it is expected that the method helps GA maintain diversity of population. In this paper we propose an optimization method that combines the data clustering method with GA, and evaluate the proposed method through simulations. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method yields better results than GA.
