Abstract

This study examines the effect of movement of slideshows in websites on searching for information, based on gaze data. We measure visitors’ search time durations of target information existing in menu items laid out at the right and left sides towards a slideshow, which is moving from the right to the left direction and is placed in the center of a landing page. As a result, the search time is turned out to be longer in the case of target existing in the right side menu items. The reasons are that when searching against the movement of the slideshow, the frequency of gaze fixations increases in the slide and the number of gaze reciprocating motions increases within the slide and between the slide and menu items. Moreover, such reciprocating motions can be induced by the motion of the slideshow. It is concluded that the motion of the slideshow can affect information search.
