Abstract

The prevalence of desk work in modern society has led to a marked increase in sedentary time. Extended periods of sitting, especially with poor posture, are a primary factor contributing to musculoskeletal disorders, including lower back pain, and a decline in general health. Mitigating these health risks makes the maintenance of proper posture imperative, which in turn necessitates a technology for the objective and quantitative assessment of one's sitting posture. This research proposes a novel method to evaluate posture by measuring load distribution, utilizing pressure sensors embedded in the seat and backrest of a chair. Furthermore, we elaborate on an approach to estimate the motion of the upper limbs and the coordinates of the hands based on this load distribution data.
