In the "Guidelines for the Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders 2020" by the Japan Temporomandibular Joint Society, pharmacotherapy includes non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), acetaminophen preparations, central muscle relaxants, tricyclic antidepressants, and Kampo medicines. Kampo medicines include Kakkonto and Shakuyakukanzoto. Many types of Kampo medicines are prescribed for temporomandibular joint disorders in dental clinics. This paper discusses Kampo therapy from the perspectives of disease treatment and marrow symptom treatment, using the guidelines for temporomandibular joint disorders and related literature, and covers 12 types of Kampo medicines including Kakkonto, Shakuyakukanzoto, Keishikajutsubuto, Yokuininto, Sokeikatsuketsuto, Makyoyokukanto, Goshakusan, Kamishoyosan, Juzentaihoto, Saibokuto, Yokukansan, and Shigyakusan.
