Abstract

New analyses were given for 4 todorokites from different localities in Japan. The chemical formulae of 4 specimens calculated on the basis O=7.00 are as follows:
Fukaura mine: (Mn2+0.56, Ca0.20, Ba0.04, Mg0.10, Na0.12, K0.08) 1.10 Mn4+3.00 O7.00•2.1H2O
Maruyama mine: (Mn2+0.57, Ca0.09, Ba0.03, Mg0.20, Na0.12, K0.06)1.07 Mn4+3.02 O7.00•2.1H2O
Hongômine: (Mn2+0.53, Ca0.05, Ba0.01, Mg0.08, Na0.05, K0.03)0.75 Mn4+3.13 O7.00•2.3H2O
Hamayokokawa mine: (Mn2+0.58, Ca0.22, Ba0.06, Mg0.05, Na0.01, K0.05)0.07 Mn4+3.03 O7.00 • 1.8H20
Therefore, it is proposed that a logical formula for todorokite is: (Mn2+, Ca, Ba, Mg, Na, K)Mn4+3 O7•2±xH2O
