Abstract
This study investigates the psychological factors influencing intuitive scoring in job application evaluations, a topic that has been previously overlooked. We conducted a survey involving 21 undergraduate students from a university in Japan, who provided descriptive responses to two standard application questions. Their responses were evaluated using intuitive scoring by HR personnel, and they completed psychological scales related to career preparation and personality traits. Our findings reveal two significant results. First, psychological factors related to career preparation positively correlate with intuitive scores in job applications, maintaining significance regardless of participants' employment readiness. Second, the personality trait of Conscientiousness is also significantly associated with intuitive scores, even after controlling for career preparation influences through multiple regression analysis. Notably, we found no significant correlation between career preparation states and personality traits. These findings enhance the understanding of how psychological factors affect job application evaluations and are expected to inform future applications in career training and recruitment evaluation practices. The study highlights the importance of integrating psychological assessments into the hiring process.
