Abstract
The area based management which consists of various activities for communal interests by community stakeholders has achieved positive results so far in many fields such as urban landscape, vibrant community, crime prevention, and so on. Recently, area management bodies in the Oteamchi-Marunouchi-Yurakucho District, which is a typical business district in Japan, are engaging in health promotion activities as area based management. Such activities must contribute to making the Japanese economy more efficient through creating healthier work places. It may also contribute to the progress of the health-related industry by offering an experimental field for health related businesses in the area. In order to make these activities sustainable, it would be effective to translate these activities into a community business. This paper clarifies the current situation and challenges of the health promotion as area based management.
