Abstract
To safety perform a direct percutaneous endoscopic jejunostomy (D-PEJ), it is essential to fix the jejunum to the abdominal wall. To facilitate fixation the authors developed the Cathelin needle method, the method was successfully used under endoscopic and fluoroscopic control in 11 patients enrolled in the study, no significant complications were noted. Cases with fixation had a reduced incidence of stomal infection and leakage, compared to cases without fixation. Therefore, the Cathelin needle method appears to improve the safety of D-PEJ.
