Abstract

X-ray examination and endoscopy have been used as screening methods for gastric cancers. Recently endoscopic examination has been mainly applied to the detection of gastric cancers in hospitals and clinics. In the institutes of health screening the number of endoscopy has remarkably increased also. The procedure of endoscopic screening is different slightly between institutes of health screening. And then the examination for cancer screening has been tried to standardize now. The endoscopic examination was not recommended as a population-based screening method for gastric cancer in the guidelines published in 2006. Now it has been tried to confirm that the cancer screening by endoscopy is available for the decrease in the rate of gastric cancer death. It is necessary to reduce complications and the false-negative rate associated with detection of gastric cancers by of endoscopy. The number of people who want to have check-up by endoscopy is thought to increase in near future. The efficient screening method by means of serum pepsinogen before endoscopy is important to investigate.
