Abstract
Our retrospective study was to evaluate the useful effects of washing adherent mucous off bumper in 103 patients in whom we attempted a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) at Kanto Central Hospital from January 2004 to March 2008. Of all patients (mean age >=84years) who had mostly hypoalbuminemia were divided into two groups : groupA (n=45), without wash the bumper and groupB (n=58), wash the bumper 3 times with 20ml buffer conteining 1% pronase. Both the margin of Body Temparature (day3-day0) and the margin of WBC (day3-day0) were significantly decreased in groupB. The endoscopic technique of the washing adherent mucous off bumper was useful of improvement for local bacterial infection of PEG (Pull method).
