Abstract

Red dichromatic imaging (RDI) is a novel image-enhanced endoscopic technique that uses two relatively long wavelengths to improve visualization of deep-seated blood vessels. RDI improves visibility of esophageal varices and facilitates accurate prediction of the depth of the varices. Additionally, RDI enables intravariceal injection with a high success rate on endoscopic injection sclerotherapy and early detection of bleeding points during treatment, which are associated with reduction in postoperative recurrence rates of esophageal varices and shortened treatment time.
