Abstract

Since May 1969, a new colanofiberscofe model CFSB has been used by us to investigate patients with bowel distress. Four cases of them revealed diverticulum of the colon; all in the sigmoicl colon, and a case in the rectum. Observation and biopsy in these cases ruled out diverticulitis. Biopsy was performed by taking specimens from the mucosa surrounding the diverticulum. In one case, septum formation of the sigmoid colon was found. Reviewing references, septum formation of the pyloric ring has been found to be reported previously by Smith and Tuttle but not that of the colon. Nature of lesions in the colon are always necessary to be conformed by a combined X-ray and fiberscopic study especially in those cases of diverticulosis. Several problems about the specifications of apply ing this f iberscope to examine the patient with diverticulsiso were discussed.
