Abstract
We collated 19, 722 cases who had been examined by gastroscope in our hospltal from 1984 to 1989 with the cancer registry in Fukui Prefecture.188 false negative gastric cancerpatients were extracted. The false negative ratio in endoscopic examination was 5.5% inlyear from the last examination to diagnosis, 11.5%in 2 years and 15.6%in 3 years. The false negative ratio was not associated. with sex, age, type of endoscope, locationof cancer or histolegical type. Put the incidence of the advanced cancer in the falsenegative cases was significantly associated with the location and the histological type. The review of the previous gastroendoscopic films revealed that the inadequateexaminations were done mare often in males than females, and that no lesions or minimalchanges were foand more often in females than males, significantly. The proportion of inadequate examination was significantly higher in the patients whose cancer occupied thefundus, the remanant stomach or the angulus than the body or the antrum. The definitelesions were found more often in the cases whose cancer occupied the body than the anguluor the antrum.
