Abstract
A 75-year-old man complaining of sudden on set lower abdominal pain was admitted to our hospital. His skin was pale and hypoxia was observed. Total colonoscopy which performed on the second hospital day revealed circumferential erosions and redness in the lower rectum. Biopsied specimen revealed compatible findings for ischemic colitis. He felt an abnormal bowel movement for previous 5 or 6 days. Conservative therapy was performed, and the 2-nd colonoscopic examination revealed several longitudinal scars. Finally, diagnosis of ischemic proctitis was made from the endoscopic and pathological findings. It was thought that our case had been triggered by constipation.
