Volatile behaviors of polonium and protactinium in the heating experiments on pitchblende

Abstract

Large enrichments of ²³¹Pa as well as ²¹⁰Po were observed in the high-temperature extracts from a pitchblende. These results indicate that an excess of ²³¹Pa, like ²¹⁰Po, may also be released into the earth's atmosphere during volcanic eruptions.
