Abstract
The thick neogenic sedimentary strata of Japan are intensely folded and fractured., While the majority of the rocks are non-consoildated they have plastic properties depending upon the cohesion established by capillary fores of water and the presence of colloidal substance., This conditon is termed subconsolidate., Compaction is helpfull in making a more enforced subconsolidation., Numbers of shearing planes and other fracture planes were measured in Etigo and these are represented by streographic projection., Generally speaking there are these forms of relation between a bedding plane and main shearing planes., In the first form the bedding plane is parallel or vertical to the axis of maximum strain, while in the second it is nearly vertical to the neutral axis., The third form is the case that the shearing plane is parallel to the bedding plane., There are but few exceptions., Some other discussions on this subjects are added.,
