Abstract

The water jet is a method widely used for the washing and deburring, cutting, milling of various parts. Star Burst System (SBS) developed by Sugino Machine Limited is atomization machine that uses a water jet. SBS is capable to pressurize slurry containing raw material up to 245 MPa. Slurries are ejected from two opposed nozzles and collide in the chamber. Raw material in the slurry is atomized and becomes very small.
In this paper, the results of wet jet treatment by SBS for carbon nanotube and cellulose are introduced. Carbon nanotube treated by water jet was homogeneously dispersed in water, and median size was about 2 orders of magnitude smaller than untreated sample. Cellulose treated alike was gel-like form, and became nanofiber having diameters ranging from 20 to 50 nm.
