Abstract

The rubber/filler coupling agents, SUMILINK®100/200, have been developed with the aim of reducing the hysteresis loss of natural rubber (NR)/carbon black (CB) composite. These two coupling agents effectively reduce tan δ (60°C) value without negative effect on other properties by inducing better CB dispersion in the composite.

The coupling agents are also able to be applied to various rubber/filler composites, such as NR/silica, emulsion polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber/CB, butadiene rubber/CB, chloroprene rubber/CB and ethylene-propylene-diene rubber/CB composites, for the purpose of improving properties.

In this article, we report development strategy, general properties, plausible mechanism and applications of the coupling agents to the various rubber/filler composites.
