Abstract
The new method of systematic rapid analysis of sulfur group in rubber vulcanizate was developed. About 0.3 g. rubber compound was extracted by acetone and the extract was titrated potentiometrically by KCNS method to give free S content. The remaining rubber was made contact with ether-HCl to give H2S which was collected in Cd-acetate solution. Reproduced H2S was titrated with KIO3 potentiometrically to give sulfide S.
The following rubber was reduced with LiAlH4 to give mercaptan radical and sulfide anion which were titrated with AgNO3 potentiometrically to give polysulfide type sulfur. Monosulfide S was calculated by subtracting above mentioned sulfur groups from total sulfur.
