Abstract
Aluminum carboxylates having hydroxy or amino-group as active filler were prepared by the reaction of corresponding sodium carboxylates with aluminum chloride. The physical properties of NBR, SBR, BR and EPDM vulcanizates compounded with these were measured. It was recognized that the tensile properties and the abrasion and the flex fatigue resistance of all rubber vulcanizates were improved by compounding with aluminum paminobenzoate. Especially, the reinforcing effects of these active fillers for NBR with carboxylic acid group were remarkable compared with other vulcanized rubbers. From the results of the analysis of the stress-strain curves and crosslinking densities, the mechanism of the action on these active aluminum carboxylates were discussed.
