Abstract
Novel open cell foam is fabricable by heating ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) with a foaming agent, crosslinking agent and also silicone compound under a normal atmospheric pressure. The effects of EVA and silicone compound on the cell structure of the fabricated foam were studied. It was observed that not only the use of EVA having the suitable flow property and of higher comonomer content but also that of silicone compound which made higher surface tension of polymer gave the foam having finer cell size and higher open cell content. The fabrication mechanism of the foam was conjectured qualitatively.
