Abstract
On the adhesion NBR to nickel platings, the adhesive properties of nickel platings were strongly influenced by the exposure time in air after the plating and by the curing systems of NBR compounds. The peel strength of Ni-NBR adhrends first increased with increases in the exposure time, reach a maximum at 12h and then decreased up to zero for 2 days. These cases, the adhesion between nickel platings and NBR compounds occured when a sulfur curing system is used. However, low sulfur, sulfurless and peroxide curing systems did not produce Ni-NBR adherends. The peel stregth was influenced by the addition of stearic acid, carbon black but was not so by the addition of ZnO and DOP. The properties of nickel plates were independent on the peel strength of the adherends.
The non-adhersive properties of nickel platings left in air are brought by the formation of nickel oxides on exposure in air. The adhesive properties of nickel plates are decided whether the plates react with curing systems or do not. Therefore, the adhesion occurs because nickel plates with a small amount of nickel oxides react with NBR under the sulfur curing system.
