The elastomers were modified by polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto hydrogenated styrene isoprene block copolymer (HSIS) and styrene isoprene block copolymer (SIS). Grafting efficiency of HSIS and SIS increased with increasing the concentration of monomers. Grafting of SIS increased with increasing the concentration of monomers but that of HSIS decreased with increasing it. Grafting and grafting efficiency of HSIS and SIS increased by adding a small amount of Lewis acid (ZnCl2) but then decreased by further addition. Grafting of HSIS and SIS increased with increasing the concentration of initiators but Grafting efficiency of these decreased with increasing it.
HSIS of high grafting polymers were modified to hard and transparent polymers.
