Abstract

Hydroxy-terminated poly(oxytetramethylene) with ionic sites in the end of segments (HA-PT) was synthesized by the cationic polymerization of tetrahydrofuran using (CF3SO2)2O at 0°C and the termination reaction by using excess of 2-dimethylaminoethanol for a polyurethane synthesis. The molecular weight of HA-PT was ca. 2300. Toluene-2, 4-diisocyanate (TDI) was slowly reacted with HA-PT in dimethyl sulf oxide at 90°C. The obtained polyemr (PUC) was confirmed to be a new polyurethane cationomer by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, i.e., the cationic site existed between the polyether and urethane linkage in PUC. The PUC film prepared by casting from the methanol solution of PUC was an elastomer.
