Abstract
Modification of polymer particle surfaces generates a great deal of values, especially in bio-functional applications. Polymer particles have to be modified in appropriate manner in order to get high performance in terms of bio-specific activity. Bio-inert microspheres were preferentially employed as the parent particle. Several bio-functional molecules were immobilized onto the particles through suitable spaces. “Affinity particles” thus obtained are used as bio-separators, bio-reactors and diagnostic reagents, such as DNA-carrying particles for the separation of transcription factors, enzyme-immobilized particles having temperature-dependent reactivity, drug-carrying particles to detect drug's receptor, etc.
