Abstract
It was found that the surface of titanium became porous and titanium hydride was formed after the surface treatment of titanium by etching in 48% sulfuric acid. After the treatment in 5M-NaOH, the amount of sodium titanate on the acid-etched surface was larger than that on untreated titanium. However, titanium hydride still existed after soaking in simulated body fluid for 3 weeks. Titanium hydride disappeared and titanium oxide was formed after vacuum firing.
