Difficulties related to cooperation and collaboration and actual cooping behavior between nurses and caregivers in the disabled building of Leprosy Sanatorium A

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to clarify the difficulties and coping behaviors felt by nurses and caregivers in the process of cooperation and collaboration in the disabled building (hereinafter referred to as the “Center”) of Leprosy Sanatorium A from both perspectives.

Methods: A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted for nurses (excluding the head nurse) and caregivers working at the center of Leprosy Sanatorium A. The contents of the answers by free description were coded and categorized based on the similarity of the semantic content.

Result: The difficulties felt by nurses were extracted from [passing directions] and [frustration that cannot be conveyed], and coping behaviors were shown as [behaviors associated with ambivalent emotions] and [maintaining oneself by giving up fluctuating emotions]. The difficulties felt by caregivers were extracted from [information held by individuals who are not used] and [frustration due to differences in interest], and coping behaviors were shown as [behaviors conscious of differences in qualifications] and [changes in oneself to improve the environment desired by residents].

Conclusion: In order to promote cooperation and collaboration between nurses and caregivers, it is necessary to build a relationship where nurses and caregivers can recognize each other’s values and learn from each other while understanding each other’s roles.
