Abstract

The results of treatments with promin of 714 leprous pationts, including 552 of lepra tuberosa, 112 of 1. nervosa and 50 of 1. maculosa, over the period from 4 months to 4 years were as following :
1. As for the resorption of nodes or infiltrations, 396 (71.7%) were improved, 1.49(27. 0%) unchanged and 7 (1.3%) aggravated.
2. Leprouse ulcer : 264 (69.1%) of 382 were healed or improved, 102 (26.7%) unchanged and 16 (4.2%) aggravated:
3. Leprous macula : 42 (84.0%) of 50 were improved, 7 (14.0%) unchanged and 1 (2.0%) aggravated.
4. Neuralgia in lepra tuberosa : 70 (15.4%) of 456 were improved, 266 (58.3%) unchanged and 120 (26.3%) aggravated.
5. Neuralgia in lepra nervomaculosa : 11 (9.8%) of 112 were improved, 75 (97.0%)unchanged and 26 (23.0%) aggravated.
6. Anaesthesia in lepra tuberosa : 49 (9.2%) of 433 were improved, 302 (56.7%) unchanged and 1.82 (34.1%) aggravated.
7. Anaesthesia in lepra nervosa : 6 (5.4%) of 112 were improved, 80 (71.4%) unchanged and 26 (23.2%) aggravated.
8. Anaesthesia in lepra maculosa ; 4 (11.1%) of 36 were improved, 19 (52.8%) unchanged and 13 (36.1%) aggravated.
9. Motorial paralysis in lepra tuberosa : 54 (10.3%) of 525 were improved, 232 (44.2%) unchanged and 239 (45.5%) aggravated.
10. Motorial paralysis in lepra nervosa : 10 (9.0%) of 112 were improved, 66 (59.0%) unchanged and 39 (32.0%) aggravated.
11. The onset of Erythema nodosun was seen in 403 cases (73.1%) of 552 lepra tuberosa treated with promin.
12. Examination for leprosy bacilli in nasal smear of 104 cases :
Disappeared within 1∼3 months: 0

13. Leprosy bacilli can not be easily extinguished, from tissure. In one case they disappeared after a year and eight months.
14. The toxic manifestations were general weakness, anorexia, anemia and urticaria, and of light degree.
15. In rare cases the Mitsuda-reaction changed positive, viz in one case it showed moderately positive and in three cases weakly positive.
16. The results of promizol treatment on 74 cases were favorable and its toxic manifestations were weaker than those of promin.
