An inspection on the size of desk and chair fitted to growth condition of the children in Thailand

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to present the growth phenomena in stature of Thai children and to investigate the size of desk and chair size fitted to their body size. The growth condition of the Thai children was surveyed in Ubon Rachathani Province and Chiang Mai Province. As a result of examination of desk and chair size based on stature of children, elementary school children need the desks with 46-56cm desktop-high and chairs with 26-38cm of seating face high. Widespread size of desk was 65cm high and that of chair was 38cm high as school furniture in Thailand, which was too large for the children. A scheme is necessary to acquire suitable desks and chairs for school children from the viewpoint of sustainable international education cooperation.
